Here are some clients I've helped
Discuss and Do Business Festival in Frome
In 2011, after Frome and District Chamber of Commerce and Frome Creative Network got money to put on a number of business-related events, they wanted someone to help promote what was happening. I came up with a plan to help raise awareness about the three-day festival, covering print, radio and social media. We have made good use of LinkedIn as a way of reaching business people as well as getting excellent coverage in local and business media. As a result, many of the sessions are selling out fast before the start of the festival.

The Salthouse co-working hub, Nunney
This new start-up business wanted help to get itself ready to tell everyone about what it does best. I offered advice and my copywriting skills to help them think about their market and hit the right note on their website for the users of this co-working hub. I also wrote a leaflet for owner Nicki Davey (no relation!) to use when she went out and about telling people about her new venture. I also investigated and offered advice about designing and printing the leaflet - after years of working with designers and buying print I do know a thing or two. I've also put together a on-going PR plan for them, offering well-thought out ideas to make sure people in the area continue to know what they're about.

Briscoe French Communications
I'm part of a trusted network of freelancers used by this successful Hampshire PR agency when they are extra busy and need another pair of hands.
I've known Directors Kevin Briscoe and Rhian French for donkey's years, from my days as a police press officer and local journalist, so they both know what I can do and how well I do it. They often use me to research things for them, which I really love doing, and I've also supported them with some of their clients. You see, I'm just always happy to help!

Journal Series
I've been doing freelance reporting shifts on the Journal series of newspapers, which is based in Wells. It's been great to get back to my reporting roots and remind myself what it's like to get all those press releases. Read one of my musings if you're interested in finding out more about my trip down memory lane.
Black Swan Arts Centre
I love this Frome-based arts centre. It's been around for 25 years and is woven into the fabric of the town. It's what has helped turn Frome into a hotbed of artistic creativity. But, like many institutions that rely on public funding, it's been having a hard time of it.
So I figured if I love it so much then I need to be roll my sleeves up and get stuck in. So I'm helping them get that steady stream of publicity about what's going on under its roof. And I get to go to exhibition previews, drink wine, hear first-hand from the artists and enjoy a private viewing which is pretty special.

Merlin Theatre, Frome
I helped this Frome-based theatre with a fundraising auction co-hosted by none other than Life on Mars' DCI Gene Hunt - OK actor Philip Glenister. He was joined by sidekick DS Ray Carling (Dean Andrews) and locally-based actor Mark McGann. I got great coverage which made sure all the tables were full of people ready to bid high for the astounding range of prizes on offer.
It was a lovely evening which also involved me manhandling a giant rubberised mannequin of DCI Gene Hunt (pictured left) in front of the auction crowd, ready for them to bid for it. The giant puppets had been used in a dream sequence on Ashes to Ashes and they were donated by Monastic Productions which made Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes. And the lovely Mr Glenister signed the puppet for the woman who paid good money to take it - and another one of DI Alex Drake - home in her car!
The auction raised more than £8,000 for the theatre, which has been struggling after Arts Council funding got pulled. It was organised - for free - by the human whirlwind that is Allison Herbert of Pop Projects who I'd definitely recommend.

Home in Frome community group
I help this group voluntarily because I'm just blown away by their creativity. This group thinks up brilliant ways to get townsfolk involved in what they do. For the past couple of years the group has organised fantastic lantern-making workshops to be carried in the annual town carnival. I've helped them promote the workshops and used social media to keep people in the town up-to-date and aware about what's happening with the group.
In 2012 the group is planning a big finale celebration after its two-year Heritage Lottery funding comes to an end. It's planning a big event which will involve flags, a giant hand floating down the River Frome and a book launch.
So from a PR point of view I think there's going to be plenty to keep me busy and I can't wait!
